JA BizTown® is an opportunity for students to work and grow in a simulated Kansas City. The curriculum helps teachers answer the question “why do I need to learn this?” and students can connect the dots between academics and the real world in a matter of weeks. JA provides teachers with the training, curriculum and ongoing support to ensure that they are able to work with their students to prepare for the visit to JA BizTown®. Most teachers start the curriculum in their classrooms about a month ahead of the field trip to ensure that kids are ready to get to work.

Students learn budgeting, work readiness skills, and then get to put what they learn to use when the visit JA BizTown® and run a city for a day. It’s a unique experience that will allow students to make financial decisions and collaborate with peers and volunteers to work towards their goals. In a quick four hour visit (two pay periods), students will be able to practice citizenship and work together to make the day a success.

Adults that grew up in Kansas City may fondly remember similar 5th grade fieldtrip experiences, and JA BizTown® will have that same effect on the students in classrooms today. JA has some availability for this school year, but dates are booking quickly!
